Haddington Running Club JUNIORS

WELCOME INFORMATION

Welcome to HRC Athletics Club Juniors. We hope you enjoy your time with us and hopefully become Olympic stars some day! That said, the skills learned, and the physical development that training as a young athlete provides, helps youngsters develop in all sports.

Here is some useful information about the club. If you have any questions, or want to discuss anything please contact any one of our coaches or Jamie Wilson at coaching@haddingtonrunning.club

We provide coaching in each of the main athletic disciplines for youngsters aged 8 and over. This includes Running, Jumping and Throwing. Anyone new to athletics can come along to try out what we do.

Membership Form/ Code of Conduct

New junior members need to complete a Membership Form, and agree an Athlete Code of Conduct and a Parent/carer Code of Conduct.

Fees

Fees are £30 per term (3 terms total per year Sep-Dec, Jan – Apr and May – Aug). There is also a £10 HRC Juniors membership fee due at the beginning of October each year. Cheques made payable to “HRC Juniors”.

There is no additional cost if you want to train twice per week although training once a week should be adequate for children 11 years old or under. We would expect those competing regularly to train twice per week.

Training

We train outdoors all year round at the all-weather running track at Meadowmill Sports Centre, on Monday and Thursday evenings during school term dates. We run two sessions each evening 6:00pm to 7:00pm and 7:00pm till 8:00pm. As a guide, 8- to 11-year-olds should attend the earlier session and 12-year-olds and above attend the later one. Don’t be put off if you have youngsters in different age groups and it’s more convenient to bring them together.

What To Wear

Please ensure your child is dressed according to the weather conditions. They will need shorts and a t-shirt with track suit bottoms and a sweatshirt most evenings. During winter a long-sleeved top is recommended together with gloves, a hat and a coat. Waterproofs will be needed in wet conditions and a change of clothes. Your child will need trainers to wear during activities. Spike shoes are recommended for the older athletes with short length spikes for use on the track (longer spikes would be required for wearing to cross country events).

Please bring a drink with you to training.

Competitions

We currently take part in a number of events throughout the year as well as informal competitions with our neighbouring clubs in Dunbar and Musselburgh.

Code of Conduct

If at any one session, the athlete does not comply with the standards set out in The Athlete Code of Conduct, the club/coaches will:-

  • On the first occasion give a verbal warning;
  • On the second occasion, in the presence of another coach, issue a final verbal warning;
  • On the third occasion, in the presence of another coach, the athlete will be asked to sit out the rest of the session.

The club will then speak to the athlete’s parents/carer; If at a subsequent session there is a re-occurrence, the club will write to the athlete’s parents/carer formally informing them of the athletes behaviour and state that further breaches of the Code of Conduct will result in the athlete being expelled from the club.

SAL Affiliation Fee

The club is affiliated to Scottish Athletics Limited (SAL) and we are required to pay an annual affiliation fee for each athlete. This is included in the annual membership fee. This is NOT your annual membership of Scottish Athletics. Athletes competing in any event organised by Scottish Athletics must register separately with SAL and pay the individual registration fee which is £5 for Juniors and can be done over the phone or online. Scottish Athletics phone number 0131 476 7321.

Communication

Our main form of communication is by e-mail and Facebook.
