Goats Gallop
Sunday 24 November 2019 @ 10:00 - 17:00
Gifford, approx 14k / 548m ascent.
The Goats Gallop race is a great reminder of our Founding, deceased member, Dave Jones. Dave had a great love of the Lammermuir Hills and enjoyed running the original Goats Gallop route as one of his regular solo training runs in the mid 1980’s. He was left a small sum of money after the death of a close relative and decided to organise the “Goats Gallop” race and fund winners trophies from the money he was given. This event should always be ran in memory of our great club member, David Jones.
Starting at Lonyester, just outside Gifford, the route initially follows tarmac which becomes a Land Rover track which then gives way to more challenging terrain as it starts to climb Lammer Law. The route continues to the Law summit and then back down to where it picks up a trail leading to a heathery cross-moor section before a steep descent into the valley below. The terrain changes again to good tracks and back to tarmac to the finish.
2014 saw a “deviation” to the route involving an extra steep climb and cross-country section. This new section makes this tough course even tougher!
STOP PRESS!…
Frank “Turps is good for wounds” McP has added another deviation along the NW side of the reservoir. This cuts out more tarmac is another lovely wee addition. See the map below
This is a beautiful route in stunning surroundings so just turn up on the day and run. George Armstrong usually looks after the timing for us and a cuppa later is always encouraged.
